Fathom AI review
Fathom is an AI notetaker for Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams that made its name with a free plan that doesn't cap how many calls you record. Paid plans add better summaries, team features and CRM sync.
Research-based review, checked October 2026. We don't take payment or affiliate fees from anyone we review. How we review. We make Hark, a meeting recorder, so read this with that in mind.
Verdict
Fathom is the easy recommendation for anyone on lots of video calls who wants them recorded and summarized for free, and for sales teams who want notes pushed into Salesforce or HubSpot. Skip it if you need in-person or phone-call recording, file imports or a live transcript, or if you can't have a bot in your calls and aren't on a Mac for the bot-free beta.
What Fathom is
Fathom records your video meetings, transcribes them, and delivers an AI summary with highlights and next steps within moments of the call ending. You connect your calendar, the Fathom notetaker joins Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams calls, and recordings land in a library you can search, clip and share. "Ask Fathom" answers questions about a call or, on higher plans, across all your calls.
Fathom has leaned into sales and customer teams: higher plans add CRM field sync, deal summaries, coaching metrics and AI scorecards. It also connects to ChatGPT and Claude so you can use your Fathom data in those assistants. Fathom says it is used at over 300,000 companies (its own figure).
Key features
- Unlimited free recording and transcription of Zoom, Meet and Teams calls.
- Instant summaries after each call; advanced summaries and AI action items on paid plans (limited on Free).
- Ask Fathom, an AI assistant for questions about your calls.
- Clips and playlists to share key moments, with search across calls.
- Bot-free capture (beta), described on the pricing page as a Mac feature, alongside the usual bot.
- CRM sync with HubSpot and Salesforce; field-level sync on Business.
- Team tools: shared folders, comments, keyword alerts, coaching metrics and scorecards.
- Languages: transcripts in 38 languages, with translated summaries in six, per Fathom's help center.
Pricing
Prices below are per user per month, in US dollars, as of October 2026, from Fathom's pricing page. "Annual" is the monthly price when billed yearly.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Unlimited recordings and transcriptions, instant summaries, clips and search; some AI features limited |
| Premium | $20 | $16 | Advanced summaries, AI action items, meeting assistant, custom bot |
| Team | $19 | $15 | Global search, highlight playlists, comments, folders, keyword alerts; 2-user minimum |
| Business | $34 | $25 | CRM field sync, deal view, coaching metrics, AI scorecards, custom summaries; 2-user minimum |
| Enterprise | Talk to sales | SSO and SCIM, org-wide security controls, custom retention, success manager | |
One quirk: Team is cheaper per user than Premium, but needs at least two users.
Strengths
- The best-known free plan. Unlimited recordings and transcriptions is rare; most rivals cap minutes, meetings or storage.
- Fast, readable summaries. Users consistently praise how quickly summaries arrive and how usable they are without editing.
- Low setup. Connect a calendar and it works; there is little to configure.
- Strong for sales. CRM sync, deal summaries and scorecards on Business are aimed squarely at revenue teams.
- Wide transcript language support at 38 languages.
Weaknesses
- Video calls only. Fathom is built around Zoom, Meet and Teams. It isn't the tool for in-person meetings, phone calls, lectures or transcribing files you already have.
- A bot by default. The bot-free option is in beta and, per the pricing page, Mac only. Some people and organizations block or object to notetaker bots.
- Free AI features are limited. Advanced summaries, action items and cross-call questions are where the paid plans earn their money.
- No live transcript focus. Fathom is about the summary after the call, not following a transcript during it.
- Pricier individual plan. Premium at $16 billed annually costs roughly twice Otter Pro's annual price.
Privacy and security
Fathom states on its website that it is SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and HIPAA compliant and supports SSO and SCIM. Its privacy policy says it may create de-identified data from meeting content to train and improve its in-house AI models, and that you can opt out in your account settings. It says it does not authorize third parties such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Google to use your personal information, and that after an account deletion request it uses "commercially reasonable efforts" to delete recordings within 30 days. It also says it complies with the EU-U.S., UK and Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks.
Fathom's speaker features are covered by a separate biometric notice. If that matters to you, read it and check the training opt-out in your settings. Whatever you use, tell people you're recording: some places require everyone's consent.
Platforms
- Meeting platforms: Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams.
- Web app for your library, plus a Mac app for the bot-free beta.
- Integrations: HubSpot, Salesforce, Slack, Notion and others; connections to ChatGPT and Claude.
- No mobile app for recording in-person meetings mentioned on its pricing or home page when we checked.
Which plan makes sense
Most individuals can stay on the free plan for a long time: recording and transcription are unlimited and every call gets an instant summary. The reason to move to Premium ($16 a month billed annually) is the AI layer: advanced summaries, AI action items, the conversational assistant and a custom bot name. If you work in a team of two or more, Team ($15 per user billed annually) is actually cheaper per person than Premium and adds shared search, playlists, comments and folders. Business ($25 per user billed annually) is built for sales: CRM field sync, deal summaries, coaching metrics and scorecards. Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM and custom data retention through sales.
Who it suits, and who it doesn't
- Good fit: freelancers, consultants and managers on many video calls who want free, reliable summaries.
- Good fit: sales teams that want summaries and next steps written into HubSpot or Salesforce.
- Good fit: people who work in one of its 38 transcript languages besides English.
- Poor fit: students and researchers who record lectures, interviews or files; Fathom is built around live video calls.
- Poor fit: anyone who must avoid a bot on Windows, where the bot-free beta isn't offered according to the pricing page.
Alternatives
- Otter.ai: live transcript, file imports and mobile recording. See Fathom vs Otter.
- Fireflies.ai: more integrations and team analytics. See Fireflies vs Fathom.
- Read AI: meeting reports with email and chat summaries.
- Bluedot: bot-free by design on Chrome and desktop.
- Hark (made by us): records any meeting app on your Windows, Mac or Linux computer with no bot, transcribes locally, and also handles imported files; free for everything that runs on the computer, $12 per month for AI notes. It has no CRM sync or team features, transcribes English only, and on a Mac records the microphone only, so Fathom's bot captures Mac calls more completely.

Bottom line
If your meetings happen on Zoom, Meet or Teams and you want free, good summaries, Fathom is hard to beat. Pay for it if you want advanced summaries or CRM sync. Look elsewhere if you need in-person recording, file transcription, or a guaranteed bot-free experience on Windows.
